16-17 April 2012. Novosibirsk. For two weeks on a row 200 students were doing Harvard case
studies as part of the The Challenge Cup Novosibirsk 2012 finals held on April 16 and 17.
The evaluators were the representatives of the KPMG companies and the Bank of Pushkino.

The first round of the world's largest strategy and management competition "Global Management Challenge" came to an end. Its participants were 5304 contestants and 879 teams. Baikal International Business School (BIBS) was represented by 9 teams (one 'professional league' and 8 of the students' league). Three BIBS teams have become semi-finalists: "BIBS Group" (faculty members), and two senior students teams - "Factor Vremeni ("Time Factor"), and "The Pharaohs of Maslow"

A special wrap-up ceremony, held on 21 March in Slovenia, was to announce the results of the 2011/2012 Challenge: Future Main Competition. Nearly 15,000 students from 180 countries have developed, implemented and presented their innovative projects to the international jury. The finalists were only five projects from five countries (Russia, Nigeria, India, Canada, and Venezuela). Russia presented a "Be Bind with Fun in Mind" project. Its team members were three graduates of Siberian-American School of Management who took the first place. Congratulations!

The fifth-year students at Siberian-American School of Management (Daria Goutnik, Tatiana Peskova, Valentina Kazimirenok, and Antonina Semyonova) received a special Microsoft Case Competition Mango award for a high level of analysis of a 50-page Harvard business case on OC WindowsPhone 7.5 Mango. Out of over 1,000 participants, they were recognized for logical relevance, in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the problem at hand and for a well-structured presentation.

Lubov' Govorina, a fifth-year student at Siberian-American School of Management, took the third place for the project "Brave New World of Sustainability" and received an invitation to participate in the Summit 2012. ISU Baikal International Business School launched a new master's Management program that leads to the Master's degree from Irkutsk State University. The area of concentration is Strategic Management in the global environment which is especially beneficial in the context of world economy globalization and Russia's entry into WTO.

Baikal International Business School, ISU, sponsored a display of children's drawings in the Federation Council of Russia. The ceremony was opened by Alexander Troshin, the first deputy of the Council. In attendance were members of the Council, representatives of the national media and other invitees. The chairman of the Council's Defense Committee V. Oserov noted that it is for the first time in history of Russia the Upper Chamber of Parliament, safeguarding peace and security, hosts an exhibition of children's drawings. "The material reserves are targeted at the wellbeing of today and tomorrow, " the senator stated. The exhibition of children's drawings is a part of the foresight-research "Development of Siberia and the Russian Far East in the context of political and economic dynamics of the Pacific Rim region." The research was done in summer 2011 by Baikal International Business School and the En-Group company in the framework of the 7th Baikal Economic Forum.
120 young artists, aged 7 to 12, from Russia, China and Mongolia participated in the exhibition. The youngsters have attempted to artistically answer the question as to how they imagine their future to be happy in. The project "The Future I Want to Live In" is an attempt to see the world through children's eyes. It is a step towards appreciation of values that unite humankind. It's a contribution to safeguarding peace, security, and goodness.

An international competition Baikal Water Bank, co-sponsored by Baikal International Business School, ISU, and an international organization Challenge:Future, came to a close. Its participants were representatives of India, Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Macedonia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines and others. Selected were the most interesting and original ideas for the development of Lake Baikal. Congratulations go to the winners, including Maria Vinokurova, a SASM junior student, who took the second place.

The SASM's "Brand-New Viewpoint" Team (seniors Daria Gutnik, Galina Korukhchian, Tatiana Peskova, Antonina Semyonova) took the third place in the Russian finals of the CIMA Global Business Challenge international competition The team members were recognized for the best presentation that they made. Six teams participated in the final competition. The teams were selected out of all Russian participants after the previous round. Congratulations!

The 10th expert seminar "The Future of Baikal Region: new strategies for the upcoming decade" was held. The purpose of the seminar was to emerge with the concerted vision regarding the prospects of social and economic development of the Baikal region. This is to allow all "key players" in business, science and local government to develop the top priorities and strategies pertaining to the overall vision.
The topics under discussion were
- The impact of modern global economic and political trends on the development of Baikal
region.
- Critical social and economic issues of the region.
- Prioritizing social, economic and innovative development of the region.

As part of the Strategic Management coursework, The BIBS MS students participated in the game that emulated actions of a company in a highly competitive market (www.glo-bus.com). Unlike their international counterparts who teamed up, BIBS MS students were running their virtual company on their own and scored an outstanding success. Upon completion of the final round, Maria Semyonova, Ksenia Geyevskaya and Oleg Saunin were entered on the list of the top 100 players of the world. The contestants were 2,788 teams and 158 schools. In addition, Ksenia Geyevskaya and Oleg Saunin, who scored 108 points each - a point average being 77 - are invited to challenge the strongest companies in the supergame of the world championship. Kudos and best wishes to our MS students for defending their dissertations.

18 April 2011. A SASM team of senior students ""Brand-New View Point" (Daria Gutnik, Galya Korukhchan, Tatiana Peskova, and Antonina Semyonova) participated in the CIMA Global Business Challenge competition. All over Russia were selected four teams for the regional finals. The SASM team was one of them. On June 6, an All-Russia national competition will be held in Moscow, and its winner will be selected to represent Russia in the international finals in China. 17 teams are vying for the victory. Good luck and further success to our students!
