ABOUT SCHOOL

BSIB Mission and Priorities.

Mission statement: We aim at leading the process of formation and constant development of quality business and management knowledge in East Siberia. We want to enhance business culture in the region and stimulate the development of competitive market.

The School focuses on development and implementation of innovative international business and management projects. Over the years we have been pursuing one goal - to be competitive in the international market. We have focused upon:

  • high standards for the instructors, students, and graduates;
  • curriculum contents and training technologies;
  • cooperation with Russian and international partners;
  • Institute corporate culture favoring innovation and permanent change.

The School is:

  • East Siberian regional center of Russian Business Education Association (www.RABE.ru);
  • participant in Presidential Program for training of young managers;
  • beneficiary of National Foundation for Personnel Development projects;
  • member of International Association for Post-Graduate Training.

School History

Irkutsk State University Baikal Training Center was established by the USSR State Committee on Education decree c 700 from November 20, 1990. In January 2000 the Center was established as Irkutsk State University Baikal Institute of Business and International Management (ISU BIBIM).

BSIB is an Irkutsk State University division authorized by the University to act as a legal entity.

School Activities:

  • training in business, management, marketing, e-business, and international educational programs;
  • training of top and middle managers (retraining courses, second degree);

  • introduction of new information technologies in business, management, and education;
  • consulting activities.

Facilities Available at ISU BSIM:
A large number of computers are available at the School. The students have unlimited access to the Internet. The study rooms are equipped with marker boards, over-head projectors, VCR's and other tools.

The School has facilities for express printing and copying which allows to provide students with the necessary study materials. The Information Technologies Lab has developed and applied the HECADEM distance Internet-based education system. The system is registered by the Russian Trade Mark and Patent Bureau, certificate c2001211742.

The Information Technologies Lab

The Department of Information Technologies in Management was established at the Siberian-American School of Management by the Scientific Council of ISU in March 1998. The goals of the Department were to develop and implement the Internet-based technologies into the educational process.

The Default of 1998 in Russia when the American Partner (UMUC) started instructing students on the Internet, stimulated the development of the University distance Internet-based educational system - HECADEM.
The Information Technologies Lab was established within the School.
In the period from September 1998 to January 2002 developing the innovative program product, modernizing the local net, teaching the university instructors to create the educational Internet-courses as well as the administrators - to manage the studying process on the basis of the new program product was completed.

At present moment the Internet-based distance educational system HECADEM received the highest expert evaluation grade in USA, Great Britain, Italy, Jordan.

In 2004 EU gave the special grant to the University in Sanderland (Great Britain), BSIB ISU (Russia), the University in Donetzk (Ukrain), the University in Bary (Italy) to create web-courses for Magister program based on HECADEM system.

Library

The students of BSIB ISU can use both the scientific recourses of ISU and the library recourses of BSIB. The BSIB library recourses consist of 21,978 printed units including the following:

  • scientific literature - 4, 159 units;
  • educational literature - 8,529 units;
  • foreign literature - 8,355 units;
  • diploma projects - 935 units.

The subscription to special periodicals including 46 titles can be offered to different divisions of BSIB ISU.
In 2004 BSIB ISU got the access to the University Information System (UIS) recourses of Russia. It is available to all classical universities to carry out educational and research projects. UIS Russia is based on electronic versions of the originals according to the Agreement of collaboration with the authorized project partners. It includes about 60 units which are being regularly renewed.
Third- and fourth-year students of American and Australian educational programs get the access to the library recourses of these universities.
